Why are some people successful and some people not? This question has been thrown around for decades and yet no one could pinpoint the exact reason some people became rich and famous and some were stuck in terrible situations that they could not escape. It all eventually boiled down to one word… Grit. This theory created in 1907 by William James, an American philosopher and psychologist, is now the focal point of many philosophers and scientists thoughts. One psychologist in particular Angela Duckworth, now the so called “ambassador of
Grit” , was very inspired by this theory and made it her life’s work. But is grit real or is it a combination of many different qualities in someone’s personality. My goal is to explore what grit it means to

Grit is something people only hear about from high school football coaches. It is not an normally occurring phenomenon that register with us on a daily basis but our grit could be affecting us everyday. Did you sleep in an extra half an hour and get to work late? Did you finish that paper that is due the night before or did you get it done early? These are both examples of how our individual amount of grit can affect us. If you got to work on time, maybe you have a higher grit score than the person that didn’t or if you got the paper done the night before, maybe you still have a higher grit score than the person that did it early. No that was not a mistake in the last sentence. That's the interesting thing about grit. It’s not really a catch all type of thing. The reason you could get a higher score by procrastinating is because you were determined to get it done and succeeded even if it was the night before. It’s really up to you at that point. Does that make you grittier or are you less gritty for doing it? let me establish one thing. The readings we were assigned are just fluff pieces for
Duckworth’s book. The authors of these two articles very rarely make their own opinions

Marcus Crede’s criticism towards Angela Duckworth's viewpoints on grit are effective as well as credible considering his usage of facts and statistics to prove his claim. Crede points out how ninety-five percent of cadets make it through Beast Barracks in addition ninety-eight percent of the people with a substantial amount of grit will make it. Claiming this supports Credes claim since he shows the reality along with the truth of individuals going through Beast Barracks, he proves that grit is not a necessity to pass. Also, this claim proves effective considering Duckworth agreed with Credes critiques to do with grit and success as a cadet in Beast Barracks. Another example of Marcus proving Duckworth’s paper is misleading is in point number…

    1) What are some of the things ( behaviours) that you did or didn't do this week that kept you in your integrity? On my first week of school, I was speaking to a classmate and discovered she lived in the relative area to me, yet her commute was far longer. The Secret In the film The Secret, Esther Hicks claims, “Whatever it is you are feeling is a perfect reflection of what is in the process of becoming” is true. After this claim is made, Bob Doyle tries to support it by saying that if someone rolls out of bed and stubs their toe and allows it to affect their mood it will create a spiral affect that can ruin a persons’ day. I agree with this claim but to a certain extent when it’s broken down and applied to certain situations because of my knowledge of the world and background information. Breaking this claim down and applying it to a real life situation makes it easier to evaluate.…
