Many coaches take winning too seriously and will do anything and everything to win. “They use fear, humiliation and demeaning, disrespectful behaviors as “teaching” tools” (Podium Sports Journal, 2015, pg.2). When Coaches use those as teaching tools not only does it affect them emotionally but also psychologically. It makes the athletes feel like they are not good enough and all the hard work and practice they put into the sport they love was for nothing. "Coaches need to learn to tolerate their own intense emotions under stress and pressure without offloading onto the athletes their frustration and anger”(Lobdell, 2010 pg.4). If a coach cannot handle their own anger and such and choose to unload it onto the athletes instead, this can affect them psychologically because they will begin to think that it is their fault. Instead, it’s completely ignoring your body’s early warning signs that something is very wrong”(Walker, 2012, pg.3). This is not the only way coaches can physically affect athletes but it is the most common way. Coaches can become extremely selfish and let money and winning be their first priority. When coaching a winning team, money is obviously a huge factor and can drive a coach to do bad things such as forcing an athlete to play with an injury. This is physical abuse as mentioned before but it is not the only form of physical abuse. A lot of coaches will physically harm their athletes whether that is by hitting them, kicking them, throwing things at them, shoving them or even spitting at them it is all considered physical abuse. Due to the fact that coaches have such authority and empowerment over athletes they think that this is all ok and the athletes will keep things confidential. In some cases they do and let this abuse affect them psychologically and emotionally but in other cases they will speak out and
