Coach Dale, head coach of the Indian Huskies, on the movie Hoosiers is a strong asset to the team’s success. He is a coach who boost self esteem instead of lowering it. Most coaches only want to win, but Dale wants to see the best of his players which you can see when he says “to be the best that you can be, I don’t care what scoreboard says at the end of game, in my book we’re gonna be winners.” The job of a coach cannot be an easy one, they have to fully give themselves to the team. Coaches are on the road two or three nights of the week, especially basketball coaches. There is a strong belief throughout the locker room that the Huskies are going to come out with a win, but the extra push from Coach Dale might send them into the “big headed” mindset. This is why Dale announces “there's a tradition in tournament play to not talk about the next step until you've climbed the one in front of you.”(1) If one faces the obstacles in front of them before anything else it seems as if they will go a lot further. It becomes very easy for any athlete to think they will beat their opponent, but it is surprising how many upsets happen in the world of sports.

One cannot half-heartedly get into being a coach. There are many nights they leave their family, without second thought. They sacrifice leaving children at home along with a loving husband or wife without restriction, as well as early mornings and late nights. Coaches literally put it all on the line for the athletes, and do not get enough credit for all they do. It seems as if players do not fully appreciate the high school coach until they graduate and are not around them every waking minute. A high school coach becomes a huge part of an individual's identity, this is due to the fact that the coach sees the very best and worst of the player. A coach pushes athletes almost to the breaking point and then keeps going, the jock gets frustrated and wants to give up but they keep getting
