Speech Language Pathologist Application Essay Sample

In elementary school, I befriended a classmate with disabilities and remained friends throughout our elementary school years. At an early age, I learned compassion and patience. In middle school and high school, I developed a passion for assisting in the library and special education classrooms to help students with disabilities complete their homework. I developed perseverance. In college, I worked as a direct support professional at a day center for adults with disabilities. I learned creativity, hard work, passion, and open mindedness. I was also a volunteer tutor in a special education classroom and a volunteer companion for a woman with autism during college. After graduating college, I continued my passion for working with people with disabilities and became an ABA therapist for children with autism. I learned problem solving skills, organization, and time management. As an ABA therapist, I have worked side by side with a speech-language pathologist. Working with a speech-language pathologist has solidified my belief that my lifelong experiences will help me to become a great speech-language pathologist. In my opinion, my real life experiences trump my grade point average. My grade point average consists of a random combination of classes that were completed throughout my journey to finally settle on a speech pathology major. I have learned more about becoming a successful and knowledgeable speech-language pathologist in my leveling courses and ABA experiences, than I did at an undergraduate level. I am confident that I can earn a graduate degree and become a successful speech-language pathologist if given an opportunity to do
