Southwest Airlines And Zappos Differences

Researching corporate cultures and the working environments of many modern companies led me to find very interesting and unpredictable results. The most two most intriguing corporate cultures I came across were Zappos and Southwest Airlines. Zappos struck me as unique because they have a “cultural fit interview” which carries significant weight in the hiring process of new employees. They also offer new employees 2,000 dollars to quit their job after one week of training. This is intended to seek out employees that have any doubt about whether or not the job is for them. Another different technique Zappos commonly uses are instilling their “ten core values” into all their employees. This prioritises on putting the customer, creativity, and a good workplace environment at the top of their list. Zappos also distributes employee raises based on the passing of skill tests and the demonstration of increased capability, not the duration of time an employee is with the …show more content…
I researched Southwest Airlines because they are the “diamond in the mud” when it comes to airline companies. They are usually the cheapest, least restrictive, most comfortable and happiest airline in the airports. After doing a little digging, it is clear this is no accident. This 43 year old company strives to put the customer first and serve them happily which is sets them apart from a market that is stricken with grim faced airline employees. Southwest is very good at communicating its corporate goals with all of their employees which makes the company one big unified team. Southwest also demonstrates trust with their employees, giving them the permission needed to do what is right and what makes the customer happy. This gives employees the power to meet the corporate goals on an individual level.
