Case Study Analysis
There are three main sociological perspectives. First perspective is functionalist, where society is viewed as a system of interconnected parts. Each part is in harmony with another part, and they work together to maintain a state of balance. Second perspective is conflict. According to that perspective, groups that compose the society are always in a conflict and compete for power and resources. Third perspective is symbolic interactionalist perspective. According to Mooney, Knox, and Schacht (2007), in symbolic interactionalist perspective "both the functionalist and the conflict perspectives are concerned with how broad aspects of society, such as institutions and large social groups, influence the social world" (p. 2).
In a case study there is a conflict between registered nurse (RN) and licensed practical nurse (LPN). LPN was busy with one of the patients and was not been able to prepare another patient for the procedure. Because of that, the patient would be late for that procedure. RN, who is the leader, had time to help LPN with that patient but did not do so. In such type of conflict resolution "both parties are willing to give up something in order to get at least partially what they want" (Altmäe, Türk, & Ott-Siim Toomet, 2013). As a result, participants find an acceptable solution that partially satisfy both of them. One of the strengths of such strategy is a quick resolution of the conflict. It works best for resolution of the issue of mild to moderate importance. One of the weaknesses of compromising conflict resolution is that it cannot resolve an issue of a great importance. Also, participants may become cynical because concessions are made to satisfy them without resolving the initial
