In most of societies eyes the family has failed and is going to struggle from here on out and the child and mother will not be happy. In some cases, health issues, can make a parent single and the family is still viewed as broken. After a divorce or death in the family the living or single spouse is usually upset and this will often reflect through the child. The psychological well- being of the child will be effected by the divorce or death of a parent. The child has a high chance of having trust issues and relationship problems. By the child seeing the hate and angst his separated parents have for the other it will affect his views on relationships. A single parent will not bring in all the values that both would because it takes the male and female values to build the child’s personality and values better (Downey 1). Finally, the child will have self-esteem issues by lacking a parent and less money (Sahu 1). We should be so thankful to live in the United State where there are so many programs and support systems to help children succeed. It is becoming easier to be a single parent but you can’t just sit back and watch you must be very involved with your child’s life (Single 1). Education has become more important than it us to be and it is very hard to get a good job without a college education. The government knows this and is trying hard to help the disadvantage such as children with single parents. Children with one parent are eligible for free and reduced tuition and often qualify for free lunches. The hardest part of single-parenting is “ignorance stereotyping and lack of community and media understanding, not the task itself (Single 1).” This paper has concluded that single-parenting can be just as effective for children and in some cases of abusive or poor spouses can be better (Stanton 1). Single parents should not be as looked down upon as much as they are. Single parents should be admired, especially ones that bust their butt so their child has what he need and is not impoverished. There are so many accounts of successful people coming from single-parents that these rumors should just go away. I can almost guarantee you know one if not more people that are being raised by a single parent and aren’t using drug or participating in criminal activity. The media fuels the flames that give
