4.1 Ownership
Singapore Marriott Hotel’s ownership is part of chain hotel as a franchise under Tangs Holdings Ltd from Marriott international Inc. A chain hotel is an enterprise that administers, under a management contract or as a franchise of a number of hotels in different areas. This means that they have control over their own business. For example, under Marriott international Inc are 3900 other hotels in 72 countries including Marriott Singapore and Ritz Carlton. Therefore, it is considered as a chain hotel.
On the other hand, Orchard Parksuites Singapore is under Far East Hospitality Pte Ltd and it is independent. The reason is due to the fact that it is not related to any hotel and the hotelier works with a small and versatile team. On top of that, the people coming to a serviced residence is lower in comparison to a hotel. Therefore, it is different from Marriott which is part of a hotel chain with relations to many other hotels in the world.

Both may offer similar positions from their properties; however the job specialisation marks the difference in complexity of chart. For instance, Singapore Marriott Hotel has a higher job specialisation compared to Orchard Parksuites Singapore. This leads to Singapore Marriott hotel having a more complex chart compared to Orchard Parksuites Singapore. Hence, in a serviced residence like Orchard Parksuites Singapore, lesser staff are needed in comparison to Marriott Hotel as the staff in a serviced residence are able to multitask. Furthermore, it is important that not only do the lines of authority go from top to the bottom. Bottom up approach must also be present when staff gives feedback. This will allow company or authoritative personnel to gather constructive feedback to improve the company during trainings or day to day
