Should United States Combat ISIS?

ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) is a group of terrorist in the Middle East that has been a major threat within the past years. The main goal of ISIS is to achieve an Islamic state in Syria and Iraq. They are trying to achieve this goal in extreme and violent ways. To America, ISIS should be considered a minor threat, but to areas in the Middle East it should be considered a very large one. The United States should follow Obama’s four step plan to combat ISIS because it can help take down ISIS without getting too directly involved. America should intervene with ISIS by increasing support of Iraqi security services, working on terrorism prevention, providing help to ISIS victims, and using airstrikes. “The United States has the greatest military in the world and is the only country capable of such action.” (Document B) This supports the fact that the United States is probably one of the only countries that has a chance of taking down ISIS or at least lessening the presence of ISIS in other countries. "With U.S. assistance they (the Kurds) can help Iraq decisively roll back ISIS’s position in northern Iraq.” (Document E) This proves that with the United States defending the Kurds, the presence of ISIS will decrease even more due to the …show more content…
By supporting Iraqi troops, it is helping the victims of ISIS fight back in order to take down ISIS. If America starts working to prevent terrorism, that can lead to less people joining ISIS in the first place. By using airstrikes, it will show ISIS their goal of creating an Islamic state is not so easy because other people are fighting back. It will also decrease the size of ISIS.
