Police officer brutality remains one of the most serious human rights violations in the United States. Over the past decade, police actions have made people wonder “are our officers of the law really doing their job?” Unjustified shootings, severe beatings, rough treatment and fatal chokings have all contributed to the ever-present problem of police brutality in America. Unfortunately, most of these incidents go unnoticed or unreported. This is why it is believed that making police officers wear body cameras can help provide an accurate objective account of every encounter with the public, keep civilians safe, police accountably and help the public’s views on police officers.

Police officers should indeed wear body cameras, especially now that police brutality is very controversial. With these cameras, people and as well as other police officers would be able to see the real footage of what really happened at a scene. These cameras will provide a much clearer picture of an event. Police officers having cameras will also change the way in which people view police officers. Police officers are there for our safety and protection but people think otherwise due to all the killings and violence that police show in events. Wearing these cameras would solve many unanswered questions about what happened and whether or not they were provoked into using their violent ways to solve problems. These body cameras can actually save lives. This can strengthen the trust and accountability of a community. It is believed that with Police Officers wearing body cameras, complaints of citizens may decrease. Even if the cameras don’t show everything that happened in that certain event, even with just a portion of that video, can help the police be justified.
