This a true event that occurred in our very own state where a boy, around our age, was outside and he was playing an innocent game of cops and robbers with a FAKE gun with a friend, when a cop came around and shot him, fearing for his own life even though the kid was 13 Years old! THe bullet went right through his chest, leaving him paralyzed, unable to do many things that we take for granted, like playing soccer, basketball, or even going bowling, in an aspect ruining his childhood. The cop on duty, might have made much better decisions had he been wearing a body cam and we could have seen what really happened. . There has been a discussion in regards to whether or not police officers should wear body cameras, due to the ongoing shows of police brutality in the past couple years, and there have been several protests all over the nation including Black Lives Matter marches all over the nation. Improved officer safety is always good and my evidence here is “ “A 2013 study at Univ. of Cambridge found that both police and respondents used less violence with body cams:”. Reducing the amount of violence directed toward police officers has always been a goal of the police departments and this simple tool, a camera instills better judgement into the criminals and even the cops! This leads right into my next point in which, “Criminals would stop, and think about their actions because they are on camera”. The criminals are caught red handed doing something illegal, obviously and they will, in the future, have to have a hearing in court, in which they have to prove their innocence, which would go to nothing had there been a video of them inflicting harm on a police
