Legal vs Illegal
Certain subjects continue to appear in the news, and marijuana is one of them. No matter which side people are on when it comes to controversial issues there will always be someone to disagree with them. Marijuana is one of the most current controversial issues because four states out of fifty have legalized it for recreational use, and most Americans disagree on whether or not the other 46 states should legalize it. Renee Jacques, author of “This Is Why Marijuana Should Be Legal Everywhere” gives readers eight reasons why marijuana should be legalized for recreational use. According to Jacques, No one has ever died of a marijuana overdose, around 40% of Americans have already admitted to using marijuana, marijuana is much safer than already legalized drugs, marijuana has a very low risk of abuse, marijuana can be a safe and useful sleep aid, marijuana is used to alleviate a lot of medical ailments, so many extremely successful people smoke marijuana, and it is simply not a gateway drug. Jacques backs all of her arguments up; however, not all of her arguments prove to be true, nor do they prove that marijuana should be decriminalized. Jacques argues that marijuana should be legalized for medical purposes, and there is no disagreement there as long as it is prescribed through a doctor and documented so that it is not being abused, but as for her reasons behind marijuana being legalized for recreational use, there is a lot of disagreement.
