For many years there has been discussion questioning if medical marijuana should be legalized in America. In the United States, only 28 out of the 50 states have legalized marijuana for medical use. Medical marijuana has been tested upon in scientific experiments for many years to research its benefits medically. The cannabis has been proven to relieve pain from illness as well as improving the mental state of those suffering depression and anxiety. Legalizing medical marijuana would not only help patients in need of the drug, but also the government.The drug would provide many benefits for the government as well. There are many benefits for the government that legalizing medical marijuana would have. Legalizing the drug in every state will allow government to gain more control of the distribution of the medication to those receiving it (3 Reasons Why Medical Cannabis Should Be Legalized). They would ensure that the medication is being prescribed for the correct reasons. In addition, there would be less distribution of an unsafe amount of marijuana being sold on the street. Another benefit is that the government would have is the ability to track the amount each patient is given. Before giving someone the medication they have to weigh and record the amount in the dose, which would be accessible by the government. Government officials would have the access to make sure everyone is receiving the right and safe amount. They would also have the ability to oversee the distribution of the drug to patients and ensuring that it is given out to only people who are actually in need of the drug. Such as people who are in pain, trying to lose weight, or suffer from depression. Lastly, government would benefit from legalizing medical marijuana because of an increase in profit. If the drug were legalized in every state it would be required to put a tax on the medication. The drug would provide patients a medication that actually works and helps like no other painkiller or antidepressant does. Legalizing medical marijuana could allow the depression rate in America to drop and prevent people from overdosing on painkiller. Government would be able to collect a higher amount of revenue than before and less of the drug would be sold out on the street illegally.
