Over the years, many people have been trying to legalize marijuana. Ever since the liberals won in the recent election, legalization of marijuana has become a hot topic due to the promises that Justin Trudeau made. Although many people want marijuana to be legalized, they do not realize what risks it brings. There are many problems that would arise if marijuana becomes a legalized drug because the use of marijuana affects the health of the users in a negative way, it would increase the rate of drug-impaired driving, and it would affect teenagers since it will easily attainable. Because of the reasons above, marijuana should not be legalized in Canada.
The use of marijuana impacts the health and well-being of the users in a negative way. There are both physical, mental short term and long term effects to the use of marijuana. Some short term effects of marijuana alter the senses of the users, changes their mood, causes difficulty with thinking and problem solving ("Health risks of marijuana use"). There are also many physical short term effects, some of them include heart attack, and stroke ("Health risks of marijuana use"). Long term effects of marijuana use mainly attacks the heart and lungs, causes loss of memory, and decrease IQ ("Health risks of marijuana use"). Marijuana damages the health and well-being of the users, and in some cases these damages are not repairable. Cannabis also increases the chances of road accidents, due to the amount of people that will be driving while under the influence of marijuana. Lastly marijuana will impact the younger generation negatively in ways that marijuana will be easily attainable for them, and drug dealers will try to upsell other things such as cocaine to the young adults which is highly addictive.
