Medical Marijuana and Its Battle to be Legalized Although many are in debate, marijuana should be legalized for medicinal purposes because it has already shown many benefits within its short-term research. Marijuana has been used medically and recreationally throughout history, it is being used today to treat many different conditions, and is believed to be able to take the place of many chemically-based drugs once legalized. In the last twenty years, marijuana has begun its journey to be sanctioned on state level. Cannabis has been used throughout history, in many different cultures, for many reasons. A website called Narconon explains that in 2737 B.C, the Chinese emperor, Shen Nung wrote about the plant’s intoxicating power, although, the main topic was on the medicinal purposes it provides for rheumatism, gout, malaria, and absent-mindedness. In India and the Muslim community, because alcohol consumption is prohibited by the Karan, it has been used for recreational purposes (International).
