Shane Dawson's Case Analysis

In the book, it stated that Shane Dawson is a male homosexual, worked for a company called Entek International. During his work as an employee for the company, he received judgmental comments in regards to his sexual orientation by his co-workers, which actions were improper in work environment. For this reason, Dawson works became deteriorated. His work results became worse as the comments became more and more intense. This might happen because he did not have anyone to support him mentally. Felt that he deserved a better workforce than this, he later on filed a complaint with Entek’s human resources department. However, he was fired two days afterwards. State law made it unlawful for an employer to discriminate against an individual based …show more content…
It is well-known to our society that discrimination against LGBT community has risen up to our attention nowadays. Since LGBT community gain acceptance, there is still a lot of individuals or groups who practice discrimination towards them. When the civil rights was made at the first time, there is no question that it was conducted to embrace all of human race, including homosexuals like Dawson. Despite the on-going debate whether homosexuals are acceptable to each and every individuals, they should still be equal under the law. Discrimination inside the workforce is tough to resolve, as the work itself is already stressful to many employees. It could affect the person’s mental health because they have to meet their discriminator all day and every week. Hence it would eventually affected their productivity, same as Dawson. As a result, sexual harassment in the workplace presents a clear and present danger to businesses. They must now act or face increasing risk of liability (www3.uakron.edu). Therefore, to address the second question whether homosexuals should be protected under Tittle VII of the Civil Rights Act, the answer is yes. Title VII is supposed to protect employee discrimination among all employees despite the sexual orientation.
