The Fair Process of Selecting Human Capital Employers depend on human capital to be successful in their organization. Determining which potential employees will be the best fit for any given position is a challenge. There is significant research into the methods of selecting new employees. Research includes a wide variety of testing to determine whether a potential employee has all of the characteristics to perform well and to remain employed for a worthwhile period of time. The New London, Connecticut Police Department is one organization which uses testing methods, not only to determine whether a prospective employee is underqualified, but also whether an employee is over qualified (Aamodt, 2016). One individual who tested for a position with the New London Police Department was not selected because, after testing, was determined to be over qualified as the individual score too high and outside of the qualification parameters. The individual who failed to qualify filed a discriminatory law suit against the New London Police Department and the court ruled in favor of the New London Police Department's decision methods. This case brought about significant controversy and ridicule toward the New London Police Department's hiring practices (Aamodt, 2016). The challenge of hiring human capital for an organization is complicated and should be at the discretion of the experts within their field to determine the best fit. This is done through research, experience, and processes. The New London Police Department has the right to use the best means known to them in its selection or deselection process and intelligence discrimination is not against the law.
