The Benefits of a Later Starting Time for High Schools

Studies show that teenagers need at least 9 ¼ hours of sleep. With the early times that schools require students to get on the bus, this is nearly impossible for today’s adolescents. From hours of homework, after school activities, and socializing, going to sleep late is pretty much a necessity for teens. That is why I would strongly recommend changing the start time for high schools to a later hour to accommodate students’ natural sleep clocks. An inadequate amount of sleep can result in poor academic performance such as problems with their attention span, memory, creativity, reaction time, and decision making, which are all important necessities for high school students.
