According to US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, “Existing evidence does suggest an association between sleep and GPA. Students who obtained more sleep (long sleepers, ≥9 hours) had higher GPAs than short sleepers (≤6 hours): GPAs were 3.24 vs 2.74 on average, respectively.” Think about your grades over the past semester, how well you were able to concentrate in class and if you were able to study. Now think about how much sleep per night you got last semester was it less than 6 or was it more than 6? If you say that you got less than six hours per night you may have not performed as well as you could in your education and this is a serious problem because education gets you ready for the rest of your life. If you get an inadequate amount of sleep in college you are going to get used to getting an inadequate amount of sleep and that is going to continue for a while even after you get out of college. Most people tell themselves that they will have better sleeping habits after they graduate from college but in reality they will find something else to fill that time and will continue to be busy thus leading to the same amount of sleep they got in college. You can plan out your week day by day hour per hour so that you can make sure that you have an adequate amount of sleep leading to better health and better performance in your education. Plan your classes, homework, sleep, and everything else for the week and stick to your schedule if you stick to the schedule that you have made you will be able to receive the amount of sleep that you are needing. Some people may say that they try to go to sleep on time but their body will not allow them to sleep and if this is true then they should use white noise to help them fall asleep and stay asleep. According to Science Daily, “A similar study by Forquer and Johnson, published in "Sleep and Hypnosis," found that the use of continuous white noise may help college students get better sleep. The study found that white noise was effective for college students with self-reported sleep problems to decrease difficulty in falling asleep and night waking’s.” If you are still not able to fall asleep then you can take sleeping pills to make sure that you will be able to fall asleep faster and easier. As college students many of us do not get the amount of sleep needed and this effects our health and our grades. With an inadequate amount of sleep you are more exposed to getting smoke because it is harder for your body to fight off infections especially respiratory infections
