Kids our age are supposed to get eight and a half to nine and half hours of sleep each night. The time you go to bed should be whenever you want as long as you get enough hours of sleep. A doctor recently said that every student should be in bed, lights out at eight o’clock to be able to learn properly the next day. That is nearly impossible. Most kids have sports after school until dinner, then some nights have CCD or other activities until eight fifteen or later. On top of that we loads of homework that are required for the next day. Some nights kids will stay up very late just to get everything done so they don’t get in trouble in school. There is an easy solution to this so that kids can stay up and still get an adequate amount of sleep. …show more content…
Sleep.org states that the natural tendency for teenagers is to do just that. Even if we tried to go to sleep earlier we couldn’t. According to the American Psychiatric Association kids biological clock changes when they get older and compels them to stay up about two hours longer than they did when they were younger, but their schools rarely consider this fact. Also, evidence suggests that teenagers are indeed seriously lacking sleep A recent poll conducted by the National Sleep Foundation found that 60% of children under the age of 18 complained of being tired during the day, and 15% said they fell asleep at school during the year. Just a simple change in time could fix this. The results of changing the time are stunning. It made improvements in attendance and enrollment rates, daytime alertness, and decreased reported depression. People should be learning from these results and applying this to their schools so the whole country can get enough sleep and succeed in school. The time you stay up till should be whenever you want as long as you balance it out with a reasonable wake up time so you get enough sleep. Studies everywhere show that school should start later for many valid reasons. Can you get everything done for tomorrow plus sports and other activities and still go to bed at 8 and wake up early to go to school? Or can you get everything you need to do done, go to sleep before midnight, and wake before school starts at
