SIHMDS implements a wide range of communication methods in order to disseminate information within the work place. The method of communication depends on the information which is being relayed and the distance of communication. The communication methods can also vary based on the situation.

One of the most common forms of disseminating information within the workplace involves vocal communication. This form of communication can be used to directly resolve a situation between members of staff regarding a sample or inform a member of staff about information they have acquired. For example, if a stained bone marrow smear is not adequate for a cell morphology study, the consultant can directly ask me for a restrain of the same bone marrow aspirate smear or the staining of a completely new smear from the same patient. While vocal dissemination of information can be easy to express, it also can be easily misinterpreted especially when it comes to patient data or a step within a procedure. Vocal information can also be spread at a fast rate however; it can be limited to how fast the information

This can be seen when the flow Cytometry Department decide to send away a patient’s serum sample for an Anti-Neutrophil Antibodies Assay. When the serum sample is safely delivered, a confirmation fax is sent from the external source as seen in attached document 1. This form of communication is secure and prevents the loss of patient data through the process. However, if a fax machine is broken or produces inadequate images, it could lead to the transmission of misleading data. Another form of physical written information can be seen in figure 2.
