This represents Mark Antony’s speech for Caesars funeral as well as his ascension. His is more effective since he appeals to the Romans emotionally then logically and direct. Also Antony is justifying Caesars death rather then proving himself that he’s an honorable man. Brutus’ tone was unapologetic, sad for having to kill Caesar, and “honorable”. Even though Antony’s tone is angry towards the end it starts off appeasing the crowds then humble or sincere. When you speak to the audience with respect rather then as lower class you gain more admiration. Also the fact that he went after Brutus helped him to be more effective since he can prove Brutus’s statement incorrect and press the right buttons. Therefore, Mark Antony’s speech was more successful.
With the use of rhetorical devices it helped Marc Antony speech to be more effective. In his speech he frequently used the following phrase, “But Brutus says he was ambitious; And Brutus is an honorable man”. Antony is being sarcastic and he’s trying to prove a point that Brutus was not an honorable man. It evolves to show the opposite attraction of “ambitious” and “honorable man”. He is not an honorable man since he was so easily convinced by Cassius to commit a murder. Maybe he did do the best thing for Rome but he broke a bond and killed one of his friends how is that honorable? He was disloyal.
