Racism in Hawaii has caused various issues to form, one of which is racial tension. Professor Osorio states that “... the margins we have been pushed to include… high incarceration, low levels of ownership of land…”[and]”... education(Hansen par.7).” It is deduced that as racism pushed native Hawaiians to the sidelines they became violent and lost their land and their education. Due to these issues the tension between races has grown stronger, hence the term “racial tension”. If racism hadn’t become so frequent then perhaps the racial tension wouldn’t be an issue; racism would have one less effect on us. However, racial tension is not the only effect of racism. Sovereignty activists have surfaced in light of the acts of racism in Hawaii.

“Terms like ‘reverse racism’... are expressions… used by white people to explain… discrimination… these terms…”[are used]”... because of the lack of discussion and exploration of what racism is(Hughes par.4).” As cited above, ‘reverse racism’ is a term used due to the lack of discussion about racism. ‘Reverse racism’ is described as acts of racism against a majority, for example- Caucasians.
