Hawai’i Peace & Justice, HPJ for short, is a non-government, non-profit organization that is locally based here in Hawai’i. Hawai’i Peace & Justice focuses on the struggle for workers’ rights, land and sovereignty, environmental protection, and human dignity. As an organization their mission is to work towards a better future by protecting our environment and preserving the Hawaiian culture and meeting human needs through self-determination and human rights. They also support the grassroots struggles that disagree on the destructive impacts of the military and wars as well as the biased social and economic policies in our country.
HPJ’s programs focus on Growing Youth, Growing Peace, and Growing Solidarity. The programs focused on Growing Youth encourages and educates the new youth leaders, activists, and organizers on the peace and justice movement of Hawai’i. They provide training and educational programs to help develop the creativity, critical thinking, and leadership and organizing skills needed for their cause and to help promote different tactics from the usual military service. Different activities for their Growing Youth program includes Rise Up! Roots of Liberation, Ka Makani Kaiaulu o Wai’anae, and CHOICES, a non-military alternative for youth. …show more content…
