Ray Bradbury’s novel, Fahrenheit 451 takes place in a dystopian world where there is constant war. Protagonist, Guy Montag is a fireman who ironically ignites fires rather than put them out. The responsibilities of being a fireman consist of destroying all existing books for the government. Montag is married to the unhappy, shallow, Mildred. Montag’s inner self versus outer self dilemma begins when Montag realizes he is not happy.
Internally, Montag is dissatisfied with his marriage, the lack of relationship with his wife. At the beginning of Fahrenheit 451, Montag meets a young tennager known as Clarisse McClellan. Clarisse and Montag become good friends, despite the age and maturity difference. During one of their many walks, Clarisse remembers
