visit our class and talk about hospice. In my paper, I will include three distinct pieces of
information and explained them. The first one was that if I want to pursue a career as a asocial
worker in hospice, I need to have a Master’s Degree in social work. This does make sense
because if I get a Master’s degree, that would mean that I would get the opportunity to get more
information/education on dealing with people that are dying soon. I will be prepared to be a
better social worker with more knowledge in hospice. I will be able to be a better listener to the

As a family member, it is difficult enough to be on a 24-hour alert for
the dying loved one. hospice provides what they call respite. This is a short period of rest or
relief for the family members. “They can go out and do some errands or distract themselves from
everything that they are going through at home or wherever the dying patient is located’ Patricia
mentioned to the class” (Patricia, personal communication, May, 05, 2017).
How did I feel about the hospice concept? I felt sad and angry. The reason I felt sad is
because, hospice workers like Professor Patricia Whitney not only have to deal with watching
an older adult dying, they also have to deal with the fact that some of the patients could be
younger. When I first heard about hospice, I was thinking of the patient being an older adult
dying. Listening to the information Professor Patricia Whitney shared with us in class, I realize
that some of those patients could also be infants or toddlers. This is something that makes me
sad. I also mentioned above that I felt anger as well. The reason why that is, is because I do
