Reflection Paper Mission Statement

Here at the University of Charleston we all strive to meet a mission. The mission at the University of Charleston is to educate each student for a life of productive work, enlightened living, and community involvement is reflected in your life plan. On my very first visit at the University for SOAR, I learned what the mission statement was. When I learned it, I was not sure how it was going to affect me, or play a role during my education. I was kind of surprised to hear the mission statement, and I was not really sure what it meant. As time went on I started to learn what the mission statement was, what it meant, how it was helping me, and what I needed to fulfill the mission and live it. As my time here at the University of Charleston comes to an end, I am starting to get asked of the mission statement is reflected in my life plans. After going through three and a half years at the University, I believe that I can say the University’s mission statement has played a role in my life plan.

During my time at the University I have volunteered at libraries, the Roosevelt center, multiple schools, and even the animal shelter. The University has showed me how important it is to volunteer. As a teacher I am going to express the importance of volunteering, and even talk to my future principal (boss) to see if we can get some activities or places for the students to volunteer at. I also know that as a teacher I will have to be involved in the family’s life of my future students. This is another type of community involvement that involves families; this means I will have to have meetings, interact, and communicate with the families of how their child is doing in my
