Reflection On The Mission At The University Of Charleston

Here at the University of Charleston we all strive to meet a mission. The mission at the University of Charleston is to educate each student for a life of productive work, enlightened living, and community involvement is reflected in your life plan. On my very first visit at the University for SOAR, I learned what the mission statement was. When I learned it, I was not sure how it was going to affect me, or play a role during my education. I was kind of surprised to hear the mission statement, and I was not really sure what it meant. As time went on I started to learn what the mission statement was, what it meant, how it was helping me, and what I needed to fulfill the mission and live it. All three of these are reflected in my life plan. Productive work plays a big role in my life now and my future life plan. This is because it is an important skill that I need in the future. As a teacher I have to learn how to be productive. The University has helped me learn skills to make sure I am set up for success in productive work. One of the most important things they taught me is to make lesson plans and be proficient when creating them. As time went on, and I received help lesson plans became a breeze. The next thing the University did was taught to be organized and to stay on task. As a teacher that is going to play a big role, because I have to be organized and always be on task, so my future students get the best education they can. Along with this the University also taught me how to be respectful, dress respectful, and how to be successful in the future. This was done through all the showcases that I attended throughout my years at the University. Finally, the University also taught me how to never give up and to always try. It taught me that just because I fail at something, does not mean I am not good. It means I just have to get up and try again. This is a skill I need in the future, because not all lessons are going to go smoothly and not all students learn the same.
