This strategic management class was very different from the undergraduate strategic management class that I took two years ago. In the undergraduate class the main focus was mainly GLO-BUS with online tests from information out of the textbook. In the graduate strategic management class there was more focus on case work along with GLO-BUS and testing from information in the textbook. The incorporation of the case work taught the students more about real world scenarios that is hard to teach through testing and reading a book. The instructors had high standards for the students to analyze every part of the company that their case was about and to determine how to improve that particular company. The GLO-BUS simulator was one of the most realistic exercises that students can have to learn about how to run a company. The simulator uses all aspects of the company from the production side to the financial side. The simulator includes the other teams from the class and uses them as actual competitors similar to the real world. The companies may actually be doing well, but like everything they are not perfect. The case work helped the students look past the cover of the book and really analyze how the company actually stacked up against the competitors of their particular industry. The first part of the case was doing a ratio analysis. This was something that most of the students should have seen before in their finance or economics class. This was a good refresh on how to calculate, but in the case the students had to take it a step further. After calculating the ratios, the students had to explain what they mean and how the different ratios interact with one another. This was something that benefit all the students graduate and also undergraduate. It is important to be able to calculate the ratios, but the calculation means nothing if you do not understand what it means. The second part of the case was determining the major problem that the company had. This was a great learning experience as the company I was researching was PepsiCo Inc. Before, I never knew PepsiCo Inc. had a problem except maybe keeping up with how much revenue they make every year, but after the case I found that PepsiCo Inc. actually has a few different problems. In order to fix the problem students
