Reflection On My Diet Analysis Project

Great Essays
Every individual needs some vitamins, minerals and water in the body. These minerals and vitamins are essential for the body. Based on the nutrition analysis project part 1, I realized I was lacking in some essential and nonessential minerals and vitamins which I need to work on how to improve the intake or how to minimize the amount I take. I used three days in collecting my diet analysis though I could have added another day. The three days I used in collecting, the data was not consecutive since I do not exercise every day. I collected two during the week and one during the weekend. I chose two days during the week because I realized I have more time to my self during the weekend than during the day. I wanted to know how that could affect …show more content…
I ate too much protein foods like fish, meat and eggs, which made my percentage on protein ninety-nine which is more than the recommended intake. Though the body use protein to provide structural and mechanical support and maintaining the body’s tissues to create enzymes and hormones and helping maintain acid-based and fluid balance, too much of protein can cause diseases like osteoporosis, kidney failure, kidney failure, gout, and possibly certain cancers. I was very low in vitamins A, which I took only twenty percent of the recommended amount. I did not eat enough food like sweet potatoes, carrots, dark leafy greens, lettuce, dried apricots, cantaloupe and tropical fruits, which are rich in vitamin A. Even though my skin is not free from acne and having a problem with my eyes, I know eating more foods rich in vitamin A can enhance the turnover of my skin cells and inhibit the formation of acne. Again I realized I did not drink enough water, my water intake was forty-two percent out of the recommended amount, even though water is not classified as a nutrient it plays an important role in the body by reducing the risk of kidney problems since water cleans the body from certain sicknesses and also the …show more content…
The analysis showed clearly the vitamins I need to focus of eating more and the ones I am to limit the intake. The dietary analysis showed clearly even though I eat food I still lack in some vitamins which can help my skin and help me have a better vision and how am supposed to drink more water other than drinking juice. I have decided to eat more green vegetables and at least some foods, which have oil in them not forgetting to drink water more often than juice. I have also decided to exercise more since I barely burn some calories and my calories intake is too much. Again, I will be eating more salads, more fruits and vegetables, which are rich in vitamin A like dried apricot and carrots. I will be drinking at least four bottles of water every day and limit the amount of juice I drink. I will make sure I go to the gym at least once during the weekday to exercise. I am glad I spent quality time on the first project to know about the health benefits about the foods I eat and how they help and affect my

Health and nutrition, particularly my own, is something I have taken special interest in lately as I’ve come to realize I’m rapidly approaching the second half of my life and want it to be as good as, or even better than, the first half. If I were to be asked eight weeks ago if I was a healthy person, my answer would be a resounding, “Yes;” my regular physicals and blood work confirming my response. And while I still believe that to be true, what an eye opener the Diet Analysis project was, as far as understanding my actual nutritional intake in comparison to the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) of nutrients recommended for optimal health and well-being.
