Through this specific model, I would connect it to my laptop through a USB cable. I would use an XLR to connect my condenser microphone, a ¼” to ¼” plug to connect my speakers, and a headphone cord to connect my headphones. The audio interface will convert recordings from analog to digital. It will act as the capital of my studio; most, if not all, signals will travel through it.
Cost - $350
Laptop & Desktop (multitrack) - Macbook Pro, Apple Thunderbolt Display For the multitrack, I would use a MacBook Pro and connect it to a Mac desktop. This way I would be able to use both Logic and Reason. I would connect the laptop and the desktop through a mini PTC Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter. I would make sure my MacBook Pro would be a mid-2012 model so that I could add an additional four gigabytes of memory through a Crucial 8GB Kit DDR3 1333. This would help me store my numerous tracks and recordings, as well as the large amount of space that Logic and Reason take up.
Cost: Laptop - $1,000 (13 in, mid 2012), Monitor - $999 (27 in), PTC Mini-DVi to HDMI adapter - $9.95, Crucial 8GB Kit - $75

Normally, I would listen to my productions through the speakers, but I would use the headphones for numerous other reasons. Firstly, the headphones would be used to play my track for the artist during recording sessions. This way they could stay on beat and have a more personal and in-depth feeling to my song. I would also use my headphones during the mixing process. This way, when mixing, I can hear what sounds best in different environments - whether through the headphones or the speakers.
Cost: $239
MIDI Controller - Behringer Motor61 61-key USB/MIDI controller Due to my personal preference, my production style will rely heavily on my MIDI controller. I plan to use a 61-key controller as it personally makes it easier to craft melodies. The MIDI controller connects to my laptop through a USB cable, much like the ones we use in class. This controller specifically includes a drum pad, which can be helpful when I am writing rhythmic sections.
