The Lord Of Flies By William Golding

Reaction Paper #2 The book that considers as the most important book for me, is The Lord Of Flies by William Golding, which was published in 1954. William Golding is a Nobel Prize winner of literature, and The Lord Of Flies is the first book I read of him. I read The Lord Of Flies when I was in high school, it was an required book for my English class. The book has a huge impact on me since the theme of the book is totally opposite of my worldview, which is the negative side of human nature. I believe that human is born good, but the book shows the evil side of human nature, which had shocked me after I finish reading it. The book gives me a different version and deeper understanding of viewing human nature. The Lord Of Flies talks about a group of young boys who are around ten to fifteen years old, how they turn from well-educated teenagers to salvagers. The story happens after an imagine nuclear war, also consider as World War III. A group of boys are escaping by plane from battlefield and accidentally departures at an uninhabited island. One of the most important philosopher in China called Mencius, his purpose is human nature is good, the bad things happen because the environment mislead human nature. Mencius’ purpose is my worldview as human nature. After I read the book, my opinion changed since the process of the turning of the boys from civilized society to salvagers is very natural, I start to believe that human nature is complicated, even Ralph, he plays the civilized person in the boys, he still desire power and wants to be the leader.
