When Jack was trying to get more people to join his tribe he tempted them by expressing, “We’ll kill a pig and give a feast.” (168) Jack knows that everyone wants meat and so he knows that introducing them to his tribe would work better if he had a delicious feast. All of Jack’s followers enjoyed meat, and knowing that they would have it there whenever they wanted intrigued the boys and made Jack’s job of winning them over easier. Jack separated himself from Ralph’s group and started with nothing, but he still managed to end with a larger tribe than Ralph could because he was a better leader by appealing to the boys sense of freedom. Jack was made for the island and was able to get materials that made life on the island easier such as pig to eat, which allowed him to please his tribe more than Ralph could. Unlike Ralph who wanted everyone to be so serious all of the time, Jack understood his tribe and was able to give his tribe the freedom that they desired. By the end of the novel Jack was a more successful leader than Ralph was as he was less fearful and more creative, and it showed off in the end when Jack had more followers than
