This organization has three states involved, MPRO in Michigan, Stratis Health of Minnesota, and MetaStar of Wisconsin. This Quality Improvement Organization is in partnership with Centers of Medicare & Medicaid services. Lake Superior Quality Innovation Network has initiatives that started in 2014 and end in 2019. These initiatives are adult immunizations, Behavioral health, cardiac health, coordination of care, diabetes care, Hospital Healthcare-Associated Infections, Meaningful Use of Health IT, nursing home quality, and quality reporting. Each one of these initiatives is design to produce better quality of care and to reduce cost in the health care field. Adult immunization goal is to improve the outcomes for influenza, pneumonia, and shingles. One of the regulations is quality reporting. The goal for quality reporting is to avoid mistakes that are associated with penalties. Therefore, quality reporting will increase the quality of care and also cut cost by not creating errors in reporting that result in penalties. Lake Superior Quality Innovation Network is designed to improve quality of care and cut cost. They focus on certain errors for an extended period of time. This focus may cause an increase of spending today, however, will greatly reduce the amount of spending later. This reduce spending later, is a major deal for the United States because of the number of people who are reaching the age of 65.
