According to the Children’s Bureau (Administration on Children, Youth and Families, Administration for Children and Families) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, “For 2014, a nationally estimated 1,580 children died of abuse and neglect at a rate of 2.13 per 100,000 children in the national population” (Greenberg & Lopez, 2014). In my opinion, this statistic is outrageous for a nation that prides itself in being the land of the free. The fatalities that have occurred from child abuse and neglect do not represent freedom at all. There are a number of human services professionals dedicating their careers to helping and healing abused and neglected children. I believe it is my calling to join these professionals in the fight …show more content…
In addition, with the population I plan to work with a Master of Social Work is extremely beneficial to have. After all the work I had done with the children during my undergraduate internship and several papers I had written on child welfare, I found that my passion was to help and heal children. My ultimate goal is to be a legal advocate for children who have been abused or neglected. If I only had a Bachelor’s degree, I would not be able to specialize in child welfare and would only have the limited knowledge of this field from my undergraduate social work …show more content…
I could not be any more grateful to have been granted this experience. This degree will not only allow me to progress in my career as a social worker, but it will allow me to also progress personally. By pursuing a Master of Social Work, I will provided with more job opportunities in the child welfare field, the opportunity to receive further education of the social work field and the option to teach social work in higher education. The experiences I 've had helping others thus far is something that I want to continue for as many years as I possibly can. A professor at Lewis University that I have grown close to, jokes with me and says that I will be a social worker well after I 'm old and grey. Honestly, I would have to agree with her because my dedication to this field is something I never plan on giving up

This question has helped shape my personal values and principles and directed my path into the nursing field. Growing up in West Africa and witnessing firsthand the sufferings and impoverishment of the people around me, I developed a sense of compassion and willingness to make a difference and help alleviate their sufferings and put a smile on their faces. Healthcare delivery and poverty are two major underlying factors in the challenges faced in Africa, thus, when I got an opportunity to come into the United States, it was my golden ticket to finally give back to the community and make a difference. This led me into the nursing field; I started out as a Certified Nurse Assistant.…
