Procrastination can cause an annoyance of stress and anxiety, but why exactly do students do it? Most common reasons would be because the assignment is just too hard. We naturally tend to avoid difficult things and strive for the easiest possible route. Students might lack knowledge and do not what exactly to do on the assignment. In a sense, they “give up” because they refuse challenge themselves. (California). Maybe a student literally cannot complete the assignment because he or she is too busy with other things. I chose Khoa Le as my interviewee because he is known for procrastinating very heavily his first few months as a college freshman. I asked him, “How bad do you procrastinate?”, and he replied, “I generally work on the assignment the night before. Depending on what it is, it could even be on the day it is due. It wasn’t always this bad; my procrastination gradually grew worse over the semester”. He admitted that “the college life got the best of him” and that he became extremely lazy because of it. However, Khoa’s grades seem to be at a decent average even throughout all his procrastination. Even though Khoa knows he could achieve a perfect grade if he did not procrastinate, he is still able to hold a steady average grade of a B+ on almost all of his assignments. That is quite impressive for a procrastinator at his level. More specifically on his procrastinated papers’ grades, Khoa says he always gets at least an A-. Khoa also says he actually enjoys writing. Perhaps there is a relation between his writing enjoyment and his high grade. Lastly, I asked Khoa if he is aware of the consequences of procrastinating and if he intends to stop or at least reduce his bad habit. Khoa replies that he is completely aware of what procrastination can do and that he wants to stop, but he says he actually cannot stop.
