I. INTRO
A. ATTENTION GETTER-(Walk out of class and come back in with the phone, then set it down and pick up the papers) Oh my god, I forgot I had homework! (Sets it back down) Well I’ll do it tomorrow! ( Turns off lights and writes on the chalkboard,” 7 days later…” and walks to grab paper) Oh crap, this is due tomorrow! (Sets papers back down). This is known as procrastination, the Webster dictionary defines procrastination as “put off something”. In fact, it has been proven that 25% of people are chronic procrastinators, that do it constantly while there are others who do it every now and then.(University of Buffalo,1)
B. CREDIBILITY: Being the procrastinator I am it finally dawned on me to do some research on it and with hours of research,

How to avoid procrastination.
TRANSITION- Raise your hand if you procrastinated while doing the speech outline? I know for sure I did!
II.MAINPOINT 1- Procrastination is not good for us.
A. As a procrastinator I stress a lot trying to get my assignments done the night before. But, I never turned my homework in complete or did but always got poor grades, which reflected off of my 1.5 GPA. My parents were enraged when they my low grades and told me to stop procrastinating and get work done. My dad told me that he came to the U.S. to give us a better education and not end up working at a low end job like him.
B. It had been proven that procrastination can lead you to do poorly in school. They conducted studies on college students that procrastinated and found out that the average GPA is 2.9 compared to a 3.6 for those who don’t procrastinate. Thus, being because they would rather do anything but homework ,so they set it aside till the last day(Tuckman,1)
C. With the pressure of doing well in school and getting good grades procrastinators have a higher risk of smoking and drinking, due to stressing of doing everything at the last minute.

IV. MAINPOINT 3- There are different ways to avoid procrastination.
A. These are many methods that studies have shown to work on avoiding procrastinators to procrastinate. One method is by setting yourself a personal deadline.(Edison, 2).This is just so you have it done a few days in advance before the actual due date.
B. Change the fixed mindset into a growth mindset(Yuen, 29).This meaning that you will not stick with procrastinating as a habit, but instead be willing to grow from that and be able to find ways to stop procrastinating, having you grow.
C. Write a to-do list that includes the most important things that you know you will put aside for the last minute, typically 3-5 things to make it easier. (Chan, 1).With this you will be able to get the most important things done quicker and avoid doing it last minute.
D. Make sure to always be in an environment that will ensure you get the job done (Frings, 1).By that meaning make sure to have all electronics either off or away from you ,make sure it is quiet and you can concentrate on your work.
E. Last but not least, swish cheeses it (The McGraw Center, 1)! This means that you take a big task and just divide it into small task to make it easier and you don’t stress about
