President Trump Persuasive Speech

November 8th, 2016 was a very upsetting day for me, personally. I had voted for former president Obama twice. I am proud to be a part of the generation that came together as one by electing an African American president. I appreciated what President Obama had stood for: equality, small businesses as the heart of America; but most of all, to create a country that appreciated all of its flaws and differences. (Obama 22-27) President Trump stands for a world that does not apologize when it makes mistakes, that does not respect other’s opinions and beliefs. Just as Havel felt in The Power of the Powerless, President Trump likes to ensure that his name is displayed prominently on his products, names on all his documents, and makes outlandish demands both of his staff and in his contracts. …show more content…
Havel would wonder why Trump relied so much on Twitter to get his voice across so poorly. Traditionally speaking, when our President spoke to us, it was a big deal. Now Trumps speaks so much, but says so little, he has polluted the idea of a presidential address. Havel would not support the way that Trump treats immigrants and refugees. One of the foundations of Trump’s campaign was building a wall across the border of Mexico. Trump said, “They’re bringing drugs They’re bringing crime They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.” [sic]1 Havel lived in the Czech Republic, a government that frowned upon immigration and those whom did not support the Czech President. (Havel 407) From under the oppression of his government, his inspiration to write about the Power of the Powerless grew. Havel was disturbed by the fact that his people were forced to support beliefs that they did not support. No matter what his people did, it was never enough to prove they were loyal. (Havel

According to the author, he stated “No, we’re not going to be able to work with this clown. No, we’re not going to be able to find solutions with [Trump]. It is time to make our own solutions when he comes after our folks.” (Ross). Suburban Warriors Summary

Lisa McGirr’s book Suburban Warriors: The origins of the New American Right, published in 2001, examines the history of the conservative grassroots movement in Orange County, California during the 1960s and 1970s. With a “bottom up” lens, McGirr focused on ordinary people behind the grass-roots conservatism rather than the intellectual and political leaders. Historian Richard Hofstadter believed right-wing activists acted purely on their “psychological distress” rather than being motivated by a set of beliefs or “rational politics” (7). In response, McGirr argues that the ordinary people who created conservative grassroots were usually already involved with modernity. Many of them were mobile migrants who welcomed entrepreneurialism and already…

Rhetorical Analysis #1 In Adam Gopnik’s article, “Why Obama Should Lead the Opposition to Trump,” published in The New Yorker on August 21, 2017, Gopnik persuades readers that former President Barack Obama should accept the responsibility of speaking against Trump in the current period of “national emergency.” Gopnik seemingly hopes to persuade Democrats and left-leaning citizens that Obama would be a successful figure in the opposition to Trump’s presidency. While the fears of many Americans have surfaced with the election of Trump, Gopnik presents to the reader a figure who he believes could provide inspiration and courage to these Americans. While Gopnik is a supporter of Obama and dislikes Trump, he gives logical reasons as to why he believes…

For example, at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, Obama confidently asserts, “Well, I say to them tonight, there’s not a liberal America and a conservative America; there’s the United States of America. There’s not a black America and a white America and a Latino America and Asian America; there’s the United States of America.” Obama resurfaces the nation’s unanimity in his 2008 Yes We Can speech when he says, “In this country, we rise and fall as a nation, as one people.” Beautifully crafted, both speeches inspired nationalistic pride; however, Obama’s repetitive parallel of Americans, white and black individuals in particular, problematically ignores the…

If the Newseum is torn down, the first amendment will not have a place to be celebrated just for itself, so there will be no place to celebrate the first American Constitutional freedom. President Trump is pressuring Congress into passing a bill that will start a project to make room for new monuments. The project will consist of tearing down monuments that the government feels are unnecessary. The project will ruin DC and the American spirit. If the bill does pass, the Newseum should definitely not be torn down since it is a reminder of what America is, it will have horrible economic effects on the country, and tearing it down will diminish the American spirit.…

Florida megachurch pastor Paula White has earned criticism after she said U.S. President Donald Trump is “authentically raised up by God” and even compared his election to the biblical story of Queen Esther. In an appearance on the PTL Network’s “The Jim Bakker Show” broadcast on Aug. 22, Pastor White likened Trump’s rise to the presidency to Queen Esther’s coronation as a respected queen even though she was an unlikely candidate for the position. She spoke in the wake of the president’s speech about the plan to increase U.S. military presence in Afghanistan, Religion News Service relays. “They say about our president, 'Well, he is not presidential.'…

Republican Presidential candidate, Donald Trump, presented his vision for American foreign policy on April 27, 2016, hosted by the Center for the National Interest. Trump plays to national pride, submitting that America should be put before all else, he also uses past victories to suggest that America once was great, but now is faltering, due to Democrats such as Obama and his constituents; namely Hillary Clinton. Introduction Donald Trump became the 45th president of the United States of America in January after winning a contentious and divisive election in November of 2016. Since then there has been a demand to see if he can deliver the things that he had promised, as well as whether or not he could find a middle ground to work with those that he alienated during his campaign. In recent history, this has been one of the most divided moments of the nation politically and Trump is entering into it with many difficulties in trying to get both of these things done. With ratings at the lowest of any other president in recent history after the first hundred days, it has become more and more evident that Trump has decided to focus on those individuals…
