President Trump leads all citizens in a very unique and effective way. Now, do I applaud every Tweet he hits send on? No, sometimes he writes things out of an egotistical defensiveness. Other times, he picks on the minor aspect of an issue when I’d prefer him to focus instead of the entirety of the matter. But collectively, his tweets further the democratic nature upon which our nation was founded. I cannot imagine how the Founding Fathers would react to this phenomenon, but I know they would not be able to deny its merits. Trump’s tweets increase the transparency and accessibility of our government and encourage other officials to communicate as openly as he does. His Twitter usage has given him an opportunity to correct the record, share his opinions, and see what the rest of the nation thinks about the ideas presented in his tweets. For these reasons, I believe Twitter may prove to be Trump’s most useful tool. Lastly, his tweets reflect a reaction to a trend of increasing political correctness and sensitivity in general. Whether all of the businessman-turned-politician’s posts on the platform Twitter are accurate or in-tune with the beliefs of others, it is difficult to ignore his adoption of the platform that he uses to invasively reach the population. This invasiveness is multifaceted, as many who receive the original tweet will retweet it, meaning many others will eventually consume it. To add to this, a considerable amount of these tweets are posted in early morning hours, which means morning shows and news stations are likely to feature them, especially the more radical ones. I believe that Trump’s approach has encouraged other officials of all kinds to join in, and that social media is becoming the new normal for easily and rapidly spreading information directly to the people. I have recently noticed that the popular video streaming site YouTube, which almost doubles as a social media site itself, has begun livestreaming political events, which I also consider to be a precedent of increased directness in government. As former President JFK was known as the president of television, and Barack Obama was known as the first to utilize the internet to reach his people, Trump will likely go down as the first social media president. Despite differing points of view, whether this is
