Trump plays to national pride, submitting that America should be put before all else, he also uses past victories to suggest that America once was great, but now is faltering, due to Democrats such as Obama and his constituents; namely Hillary Clinton. Trump first breaches listeners by playing to their pride: reassuring Americans that they should come before anyone else. Once formalities are over, Donald Trump jumps strait in to his prime directive, he shares with listeners that the “American people and [their] security” should be put “above all else”. In fact, Trump says it will be the “foundation” and “theme” of his administration. After the pep talk, Trump feeds examples to listeners that promote the idea that America’s “rivals no longer respect us”, such as Obama’s “unprecedented” effort to get the Olympics America, which resulted in failure. From the beginning of his speech to the end, Christie lets the reader process their thoughts by including many intentional pauses, which engaged the audience and conveyed emotion. This also helped him communicate his ideas persuasively.…

Trump’s first line as evident in his speech criticizes the present establishment, “Our failed establishment has brought us nothing but poverty at home, and disaster overseas.” Before the criticizing beings, Trump uses the word ‘Our’, which is influential and creates an atmosphere of unity. He does this by distancing himself from ‘them’, being the failed establishment. Trump brings attention to the failed establishment and Hilary Clinton is a member of this. Under the veneer of praising Donald Trump in the title of her essay – “The rhetorical brilliance of Trump the demagogue” (Mercieca, 2015), Jennifer Mercieca explores Trump’s rhetorical strategy to rally the American public into supporting him in spite of his offensive rhetoric. Using Donald Trump’s December 7 Statement on Preventing Muslim Immigration (Trump, 2015) as an example, Mercieca puts forth this essay to explain Trump’s “profound and persistent appeal” (Mercieca, 2015) through demagoguery in his speeches. Mercieca's primary exposition on how Trump’s ideas are framed and entrenched through rhetorical devices has led to his ability to successful craft a political narrative which positions himself as a hero saving “a nation in crisis”…

Liberals are already in shock. There is a level of incredulity that far surpasses their puzzlement at the election and re-election of GW and Cheney. Moderate liberals, who believe that socioeconomic change happens gradually and with compromise, are already wondering what has happened to the entire federal government. Also, Democrats (not all of whom are "Liberals") tend to believe that all people should be treated with respect. In fact, they pretty much assume that's obvious.…

Obama delivered this speech at the memorial service for the victims of the shooting in Tucson, Arizona on January 8, 2012. This shooting killed six Americans and injured thirteen: one of the injured being congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (Aufses). Obama’s speech is not intended as an emotionless way to communicate information but rather to comfort the people touched by the event, as well as to guide them in how to handle their sorrow. He is able to create such an effective jeremiad by clearly presenting an ideal behavior for Americans; Obama says that Americans should strive to be better as a result of the loss of their loved ones (Obama). He goes on to describe the way in which the United States has fallen from those standards simply because they are so caught up looking back at the past: building resentment for those who have hurt their loved ones and seeking revenge .…

The slogan that propelled Donald Trump into his influence across the nation, “make America great again,” shows that Trump sees America has fallen downhill and has hopes to improve it. Trump wants to see this country go back to the prosperous country it once was, but he does not know how to filter his words according to most, which makes him seem frightening. Despite Clinton’s accusation about the risk of Donald Trump, his clever use of scare tactics gives voters a sense of security because of his ideas concerning immigration and terrorism. According to Molly Ball, author of “Donald Trump and the Politics of Fear,” Donald Trump uses fear to his advantage in hopes of winning the presidential election.…
