In order for us to be positive people, we have to have positive thinking. Everything about the way we function begins in the mind. This is why the word tells us to think on things that are positive. It has been proven through research that the source of many illnesses is negativity and negative thinking. Negative thinking is one of the main causes of chronic stress and can cause your immune system to weaken, opening your body up to illness. We learn from Amos 3:3 that two can’t walk together “unless they agree.” What type of people are in your surroundings? Are they people who are pessimistic and always look for the worst?
Gossip is a major trap of the enemy that can not only have a person caught up in a bad situation, but it can cause negative thinking. When we allow people to talk to us about others, it can cause distortion in our mind concerning an individual and put us in a place where we find that we have an ought against that person formed by someone else. This creates unnecessary conflict in our life. In addition to the negativity it brings our way, we are then looked at as part of the problem in the eyesight of the Lord. Proverbs 17:4 tell us “An evildoer listens to wicked lips, and a liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue.”
Today’s challenge is for you to think of ways to invite positivity into your life. What areas do you need to reduce negative thinking? What things in your life do you need to speak life to? How can you prevent yourself from having a negative mindset? What do you need to change about your surroundings?
