Being optimistic can actually affect a person’s mental health. The Mayo Clinic Staff explains, “Health benefits that positive thinking may provide include: Lower rates of depression, lower levels of distress…” Positive thinking can lead to a happier life because it keeps people from thinking of all of the things that are wrong, which ultimately causes stress. An experiment was conducted to see if thinking optimistically increases how long a person will live. Research proved that thinking optimistically about situations can drastically decrease the chances of dying early (Mindfulness and Positive Thinking). If people just have a positive attitude instead of a negative attitude when facing conflict, then they could be increasing their lifespan. In another experiment the conclusion was made that “Greater optimism predicted greater antibody production and better immune outcomes” (Mindfulness and Positive Thinking). In the long run, having an optimistic personality will make the immune system stronger and the body less likely to become ill. Responding to conflict with a positive attitude is the best way to face conflict for many reasons. First of all a positive attitude will increase not only one’s mental health, but physical health as well. Additionaly, many others before us faced conflict with a positive attitude, and it proved to have helped their difficult situations. Being optimistic is the best way to live a happy life.
