Males in history have been portrayed to be the dominant sex in society, especially in relationships. So to shift the gender roles shows that women are able to have more power in terms of relationships and what they want from them. People are being aimed, or hailed at, because of their age, gender, sex, interests, religious beliefs, and for other reasons. Advertisers will do this so that that audience will relate to the brand or product in some way and want to buy it. Calvin Klein is using their “raw texts, real stories” campaign, one advertisement specifically on threesomes, to show that this ad being hailed at young women at least ages eighteen or older, who are comfortable with their sexuality and are willing to be intimate with others without having any emotional attachment. In this case, not only are these women being hailed because of their freedom, but because of their sexual preferences. The conversation between the two females can infer that they are either homosexual, or willing to experiment with other people, which goes against the norms of only being attracted to the opposite sex. It’s being aimed at the young women in the world who know what they want and go for it. With how much technology is being woven into everything we do, then it only helps those women to reach out and be expressive of who they are.
