Plato would of believe that the painting will just be a imitation. He fear that painting or artist will just imitate object of the real form. Almost all artwork is just minicing object of real form such as a craftperson who make table and chairs , they had to see the real object and just copy it. However, some object he would like will be abstracts artwork because they are just random object put together. He would have put them in his idea city.
Platos theory of imittation can be be view as a incredible philosophical theory because almost every object we see today will be a replication of a object that was first created for a purpose. Whereas in plato time there was not as many object to replication an object. Some people will agree that Plato was on the right path for his "ideal" city.
