Likewise, Richard Hanna posted his reasoning against the bill shortly after the vote. According to this post, Mr. Hanna doesn’t believe in abortion, yet he believed that defunding Planned Parenthood wouldn’t bring abortions to a halt. Rep. Lipinski, is a pro-life Democrat, who has a long record of opposing pro-abortion legislation. For instance, he opposed the “Democrats’ health care overhaul” because “its provision banning federal funds for abortions wasn’t strong enough,” despite other conservative Democrats supporting it (Almanac). Consequently, he’s the 5th most conservative Democrat, and out of all the bills that he has cosponsored, including this one, 58% have been introduced by a member of another party. Also, he holds a master’s degree in divinity and won his race largely because of the vast support of Christians (Almanac). In addition, some of the top industries that contributed to his campaign, like health professionals and insurance companies, most likely influenced his stance on this bill (OpenSecrets.org - James Lankford). Since Lankford has really strong Baptist roots, and because he won his Senate race largely thanks to the support of Christians, it makes sense that he would have supported and introduced this bill.
