Philosophy benefits people from all different walks of life because it allows us to self actualize, deepen our sense of reason and purpose, maintain a safe society and understand different perspectives. Socrates once said, “The unexamined life is not worth living.” pg 21 This means that we as individuals must examine our lives to find out who we truly are and what we truly live for. This is critically important for us to do because if we do not know what we are living for we would not become functioning members of society. If I conclude my life has no purpose, I would not vote, go to school, get a job, start a family or do anything I found boring or tedious at the time. Only in coming to understand ourselves do we find out what we value, what gets us up in the morning and what we live for. We benefit from understanding ourselves because the more we understand ourselves the better we can begin to understand others. Understanding others if how we form meaningful relationships and gain knowledge and wisdom through our trails and tribulations to pass on to new generations. Our sense of reason and purpose deepens every time we understand something or make a new connection using philosophy. This matters to us all as a collectivist group because our minds are constantly processing new information and every time we think critically and philosophically about ideas it helps us live our lives a little better, preform our vocation with more expertise and expands our minds just a…
