Relationship between Personal Responsibility and College Success
There is a significant correlation between personal responsibility and college success. As stated earlier in this essay, personal responsibility and accountability go hand in hand. To be successful in college, there are a few things that need to be done. For instance, homework needs to be completed and turned in on time. Since points can be obtained from “participation,” it is also important to be in attendance, participate in classroom discussions, and activities. In 2008, according to the “National Survey of College Students, 20 percent of students didn’t complete their homework. One in five college students comes to class “often or very often” without completing required readings or assignments (Phelps, n.d.). While the exact reasons aren’t clear, those numbers are a bit startling. That was in 2008, I can only imagine what the statistics look like today. Along with everything else that goes on during ones time in college, it's sometimes easy to lose sight of the end goal; graduation.
