At first I wasn’t as effective as I could have been, because, I had to learn about how to meet the service user’s needs in a positive way. However, over time I learnt to gain more confidence to ask staff to see care plans and support plans so I am able to see the needs of the service users that I am caring for, this made me much more effective as a carer. The confidence that I have gained over the two years of my work placement has been tracked throughout my action plan. My effectiveness wasn’t that beneficial as I did not have the experience of different roles in the jobs that I had to perform within the work placement. Although over time as I communicated effectively with staff I was able to ask questions and advice about how to partake in the roles, this helped me to gain confidence within the role and also improved my effectiveness as a carer within the job roles themselves. This was promoting effective communication and building relationships with the clients. This also enabled them to become much more comfortable with me and build

Using theories from social influences and human behaviour and development I was able to see Mr’s perspective on issues which he has spoken in confidence about, and also how the community may feel towards someone like Mr X without knowing his background or personality. By complying with the NMC Codes of conduct I treated Mr X as an individual without judgement and with respect throughout the entire activity (NMC, 2015). Safe working practice was also a key aspect leading up to and during the activity, this is knowledge not only gained from my HNC course but by thoroughly researching the care homes policies and procedures in relation to risk assessments. Throughout the planning and development of the activity I tried to ensure where possible that I linked theory learned during my course into practice leading up to and during the activity. By acknowledging Mr X’s needs during the activity, when an opportunity for a friend to sit and chat with Mr X I felt it was appropriate to allow this to happen as improving Mr x’s…
