In life, everyone has ups and downs sometimes physical, sometimes mental not everyone can overcome the hardships and a helping hand is needed. This is where an occupational therapist plays the vital part, helping people develop, recover and improve the skills needed for daily life. I feel the role of occupational therapy suits me and my personality after seeing the way that they interact with people motivating them, giving them hope and helping them to remain independent. Unsure of what I ultimately wanted to do I started volunteer work as a support worker for at Mind in Furness to gain some experience working with people of varying ability’s mental and physical. This confirmed my feelings for working in the health care sector were correct as I found it very rewarding. Doing volunteer work at mind l gained valuable experience and this lead me onto the opportunity to work with Creative Support my current employer as a homecare worker.
While working for Creative Support I have had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of people in all age ranges and with all levels of mental and physical abilities. During this time, I have learned vital skills from communication to using a range of specialist equipment. I have also had the opportunity to shadow in other departments working with support workers gaining insight into other areas and during this time have seen the vital role occupational therapists play in both mental and physical
