The prince slays the mighty dragon with his sword, and he and his princess live happily ever after. I, like so many others, have grown up fantasizing about fairytale endings. When good triumphs over evil, and the courageous hero defeats the ferocious beast. As a little girl, these stores taught me to believe in myself, and to be the hero of my own story. But the problem is, in real life there is no overarching villain spewing fire on the honorable hero. There is no single courageous act that can guarantee a happy future for the deserving individual. For these reasons, I would not hesitate when making the choice between acting the part of hero or villain. I choose to be the evil villain. Everyone roots for the hero, the character that is valiant, compassionate, and most importantly, identifiable. When I watch The Little Mermaid I see myself as Ariel, the curious and strong young woman, or as Eric, the …show more content…
There is always one monumental obstacle blocking a character from achieving his goal. I do not believe that there is a climax of my life. I know that I cannot conquer my one mightiest enemy and expect the rest of my life to peacefully resolve like the end of a fairytale. By playing the part of a villain, I can maintain the fire in my heart. I can force myself to pursue my aspirations through every challenge that is thrown my way. As a student approaching adulthood, I am commonly asked what I want to major in, where I want to live, and what career path I wish to take. The truth is, I have no fathomable idea of what I will be doing five or ten years from now. I don’t have the slightest clue of who I want to become. This does not scare me, because I know my potential. I refuse to be content with anything less than my dreams, whatever those may be. I have this magnificent drive to be incredible, and that drive comes within. I will be my own villain, my own driving force. I will give myself the courage to

As a child, my parents shaped me into their ideal image of a little girl. The formation of their ideals actually started long before I first opened my eyes in the hospital. My story began back in 1988, when my parents met while working at Walt Disney World as cultural exchange workers from Canada. Their romance is a fairy tale. They had their first date at the Magic Kingdom, they spent all their days off on a Florida beach, and they experienced the technical magic that Disney is so well-known for.…

The villain in many works of literature can be as complex as the hero himself; however, this villain that the hero has to fight is not necessarily the only villain that our hero has to worry about. Living inside the hero, the villain is as undeniable and as powerful as it is in the monstrous creatures that are to be fought in a more physical or present way. The true villain in many hero novels is the struggle within the hero himself. This villain is like any other; entering when least expected and being fed by outside sources. The fact remains: they are as deadly as the monsters that attack in the night.…

Because of health reasons, my eldest sister, Ariel, hasn’t been able to drive for a little over a year. Sometime after Christmas, my parents dubbed me responsible enough, and Ariel well enough for me to be her new chauffeur; responsible enough of a driver, taking extra care to drive safe, and well enough to pay attention to any drifting from anything I read in the manual. The first time we took off was to take a quick trip to our local Dollar General. Ariel’s daughter, my niece, was sick with a cold so we needed to pick up some baby ibuprofen. Since Bethany, Aaron, and my dad was at work, Sierra, Elizabeth, and my mom were also sick, I was the only “driver” available.…

Something in me has always known that I was not typical. In this generation, the typical person would graduate high school and then go on to pursue a two to four year college degree. Up until a few months ago, that was what I thought I was going to do. I thought that I was going to go to a private college somewhere, major in law, come out to be a defense attorney, and spend my days and nights hauled up in a courtroom somewhere. I believed that that was going to be my reality not because I wanted it to be but because I thought it had to be.…

The two crucial stories told by Piscine Molitor Patel, the main character of the novel Life Of Pi written by Yann Martel, contain completely different characters as well as different versions of events that took place while Pi was lost at sea. The differences of these two stories unite to form a commentary on religion, specifically religious tales, and the power of storytelling. In addition to their differences unveiling observations related to people’s beliefs, the similarities between the two also say something about how perception can change reality. The first more detailed story Pi tells includes a unique series events after a shipwreck which leaves the narrator stuck in a lifeboat with several animals, attempting to survive.…
