My story began back in 1988, when my parents met while working at Walt Disney World as cultural exchange workers from Canada. Their romance is a fairy tale. They had their first date at the Magic Kingdom, they spent all their days off on a Florida beach, and they experienced the technical magic that Disney is so well-known for. After a year, they returned to Canada, settled down together in Waterdown, and bought dozens of Disney VHS tapes. I showed up a whole decade after their “happily ever after”. I was indoctrinated into the Disney philosophy as soon as I could sit through The Lion King without screaming during Mufasa’s death. I actually believed that my parents were a king and a queen because they met at Walt Disney World. I had to inherit my parents’ fairy tale someday; therefore, I had to fit my parents’ expectations of a princess. As their first child, I was coddled and babied constantly. Dad noticed the signs of a storm; so, Mom grabbed my hand and ushered me into one of the gift shops along Main Street. The gift shop was stuffed with tourists who were milling around to wait out the passing storm. I examined my surroundings and spotted a plastic tiara on a shelf close to the shop’s entrance. I released Mom’s hand, waddled over to the crown, and placed it on my head. Mom shoved through the throngs of tourists to get to me, and then she noticed the

In the article “Through the Window at Disney: A Lifetime of Brand Desire,” Susan Bennett and Marlis Schweitzer critically analyse a feature of Disneyland: the “Bibbidy Bobbidy Boutique.” Bennet and Schweitzer offer detailed descriptions of the boutique while critically responding to the services it provides, such as the Princess makeover. The article gives evidence to suggest that the Princess makeover uses child consumer/models to embody the “Disney fantasy” in a crafty method of “brandscaping” (28, 25). Using this article as a reference, I will critically analyze scenes from Disney animated films such as The Princess and the Frog as well as some relevant Disney products and experiences. I will pay particular attention to the messages being…

Honestly, I’ll come right out and admit that I have never been the Detroit Lion’s number one fan, or any football fan for that matter. Sure, I had technically gone to each of the homecoming games both years in high school, but only for the sole excuse of being able to put some red war paint on my face and attempt to catch up with some friends. The only exposure I had to the sport was walking through the doors of Phase Three during cross country season. Day after day, I was forced to push through groups of teenage guys reeking with a putrid stench of dried sweat, rotting eggs, and grass stains; the smell in itself was enough to make my eyes water.…

Over the years and years spent on studying mythology, Joseph Campbell came up with the concept of The Hero’s Journey. The Hero’s Journey states that all hero’s travel in a similar path and go through many similar stages that’ll lead them to their reward. However, not every hero’s journey has to involve obstacles as in slaying a dragon or trying to save the world. In my case, I had to do nothing but trying to make it through sixth grade year. Sadly, sixth grade was the year that I faced the most challenges, real world challenges at least.…
